By ExpokNews September 6, 2013 0 LinkedinFacebookTwitterWhatsApp “Only a life dedicated to others is worth living” Albert Einstein By Emilio Guerra Díaz Of the people who participate in various activities as volunteers, I most admire those who collaborate in rescues, civil protection and first aid, but also those who serve in human rights organizations. Perhaps the reasons for that first preference are linked to that difficult September 19 when I was completely shocked. The fear that the intense and long-lasting earthquake aroused in me paralyzed me. I was leaving the University that same Thursday, it was the last day of classes. Since then I have admired all those who have the courage to face these adversities despite what they may encounter in their act of service. Something similar happens with human rights activists. They face the worst behaviors, aberrations and the silliest indignations that humanity can know when a person wants to harm another, is capable of torturing, hurting... killing. They face all the shames and mean and degrading acts.
These two fields of action are fundamental for the Phone Number List conservation of life and dignity of people. Although they are two very valuable causes and attract a large number of volunteers not only in Mexico but throughout the world, in our country they do not receive sufficient support from public authorities, let alone the government. For example, rescue, relief and first aid bodies work mostly with the resources and donations they raise from their fundraising activities. Firefighters, members of the Red Cross, other relief associations, search and rescue dogs, rescue moles, etc. They have limited resources in a good number of communities. To make matters worse, non-volunteer personnel who provide these services, such as the Mexico City Fire Department, earn a meager salary, have few vehicles and obsolete equipment. Just a few days ago some assembly members organized a collection of their diet to donate to the Vulcans. Regarding human rights, due to the delay in adapting the legal framework to the federal Income Tax law, the majority of organizations of this type do not have authorization to receive deductible donations.
Human rights activists face several problems. On some occasions they are identified as members of the “civil society”, people you would say who confront the government in a systematic way. Others do not even show interest in knowing what human rights volunteers do and remember the unfortunate phrase that a former governor said as if it were a definitive and real sentence: “human rights are only for human rights” nothing more. Today, with the advance of democracy, we have gone from a totalitarian state to biased hierarchies where all parties have public resources to put their foot down on the adversary. Citizens who have certain rights such as free movement face a lack of authority and the “kidnapping of the city” goes unpunished. In this framework, the volunteer who is a human rights activist and who always has the law as a reference for his work, is described as a partial citizen, identified with a current or political party. No, it is not easy to be a volunteer in these types of actions. Both require that they be collectively appreciated and revalued. Both camps save lives and their volunteers do not have enough resources. _________________ Phone Number List |
